'BEE MOVIE' STINGS 'GANGSTER'

Jerry Seinfeld turned more honey into money as his animated comedy "Bee Movie" buzzed to the top of the box office in its second weekend.

The DreamWorks-Paramount flick, which debuted behind Universal's "American Gangster" the previous weekend, pulled in $26 million, raising its total to $72.2 million, according to studio estimates.

"American Gangster," starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, fell to #2 with $24.3 million, lifting its total to $80.7 million.

"We don't often see a movie start out in the No. 2 position then move up to No. 1," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers. "It just shows how strong the word of mouth is on this movie and that families are really enjoying it."

Adult audiences had put "American Gangster" ahead on Friday, but weekend matinee crowds lifted "Bee Movie" to the top spot. "Bee Movie" is positioned well for Thanksgiving, when children will be out of school.

"This is terrific playing time for this movie," said Anne Globe, head of marketing for DreamWorks.

Two of Hollywood's biggest cultural icons - Santa Claus and Tom Cruise - had to settle for also-ran debuts.

Warner Bros. "Fred Claus," with Vince Vaughn as the black-sheep brother of Santa (Paul Giamatti), opened at No. 3 with $19.2 million, on par with last November's $19.5 million debut of Tim Allen's "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause."

Cruise's "Lions for Lambs," co-starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, premiered at No. 4 with $6.7 million. The movie directed by Redford was the first release by the rejuvenated MGM banner United Artists since Cruise and Paula Wagner took it over.

Costing a modest $35 million, "Lions for Lambs" was aimed at an older, thinking-person's audience compared to the crowds that turn out for Cruise's action movies. Just over two-thirds of the audience was 35 or older, according to MGM.

"Older audiences don't necessarily come out the first weekend, so we're looking to get a very solid run all the way through the Thanksgiving holiday," said Clark Woods, MGM head of distribution.

Summit Entertainment's "P2," starring Wes Bentley and Rachel Nichols in a thriller about a woman trapped in a parking garage and terrorized by the attendant on Christmas Eve, opened at No. 8 with $2.2 million.

Joel and Ethan Coen's "No Country for Old Men" got off to a great start in limited release, taking in $1.2 million in just 28 theaters for an average of $42,929 a cinema.

By comparison, "Fred Claus" averaged $5,336 in 3,603 theaters and "Lions for Lambs" did $3,029 in 2,215 cinemas.

"No Country for Old Men," a Miramax release, is one of the year's most acclaimed films, starring Tommy Lee Jones as a Texas sheriff, Javier Bardem as a killer and Josh Brolin as a man on the run after a drug deal gone wrong.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC.

01) "Bee Movie" @ $26 million.

02) "American Gangster" @ $24.3 million.

03) "Fred Claus" @ $19.2 million.

04) "Lions for Lambs" @ $6.7 million.

05) "Dan in Real Life" @ $5.9 million.

06) "Saw IV" @ $5 million.

07) "The Game Plan" @ $2.4 million.

0 "P2" @ $2.2 million.

09) "30 Days of Night" @ $2.1 million.

10) "Martian Child" @ $1.75 million.

+===================================+
BEVERLY HEATHER D’ANGELO

DOB  November 15, 1951, Columbus, Ohio, USA

This striking and sultry blue-eyed blonde could be a household name, if she cared to be. She first worked as a cartoonist at Hanna-Barbera before moving to Canada to pursue singing. It was there that she was cast as Ophelia in "Rockabye, Hamlet" (1975). After small roles in "Annie Hall" and "The Sentinel" (both 1977), she gained attention as rebellious debutante Sheila in "Hair" (1979). She secured her reputation as Patsy Cline in "Coal Miner's Daughter" (1980), singing the Patsy Cline songs for a soundtrack album.

D'Angelo first played Ellen Griswold in "National Lampoon's Vacation" (1983) and reprised the part in 3 sequels (1985, 1989, 1997) which did well at the box office. On TV, she won raves for the 1984 remake "A Streetcar Named Desire" with Treat Williams. She also starred as Mary Heard in "Hands of a Stranger" (1987),
Kitty Menendez in 1994 "Menendez: A Killing in Beverly
Hills" and with Mack Astin in "Widow's Kiss" (1996).

D'Angelo returned to the New York stage in 1994 with Ed Harris in Sam Shepard's "Simpatico." She sang 8 songs for the soundtrack and performed "Lovin' You"
for "Vegas Vacation" (1997). Her band Blue Martini (including brother Jeff) has afforded her the chance to display her singing talent. The romantic has often concentrated on her relationships at the expense of her career, but that may be a thing of the past.

After “American History X,” she appeared in several small features throughout the 1990s. She vamped her way through “Sugar Town” (1999) as a wealthy widow who bankrolls a group of aging rock stars, then played
the second wife of the mobster Meyer Lansky in HBO’s
“Lansky” (1999). D’Angelo appeared alongside other celebs to sing the praises of behind-the-scenes comedy
writer Bruce Vilanch in “Get Bruce” (1999), then costarred as a theater owner in “Illuminata” (1999). As the 21st century came into being, she appeared less frequently. She starred in “Women in Film” (2001), followed by a cameo in the Freddie Prinze, Jr.
comedy “Summer Catch” (2001).

D’Angelo turned her focus from acting to raising twins
Anton and Olivia, both from Al Pacino. In early 2003, the tabloid press reported on the couple’s custody woes. When all issues were later resolved, D’Angelo said the press had overblown the ordeal and that she and Pacino remained close. D’Angelo continue to act occasionally, starring as a conservative radio host in the failed sitcom “Talk to Me” (ABC, 1999-2000) and in the 2003-2004 season of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (NBC, 1999). She also landed a role on the HBO comedy, “Entourage” (2004), playing Barbara Miller, who uses her financial resources to start a partnership with über-agent Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven).

SNIPES ALLEGES RACISM IN TRIAL

Wesley Snipes claims Ocala Florida is too racist. In a motion filed in U.S. District Court, Snipes' lawyer argued that the U.S. Attorney's Office deliberately chose the most racially discriminatory venue to get the government the best possibility of an all-white Southern jury. The motion describes the area as a hotbed of Klan activity where Klan adopted highways and Confederate flag flies over government property. Chief Assistant State Attorney Ric Ridgway dismissed the argument. "That's perhaps the most outrageous claim I've ever heard made in open court."
